Chiefs Lose Both Ends Of A Double Header Against Bats

The Chiefs dropped back to back one run games against the Bats today.  In the first game, Josh Banks was hit hard and he gave up four runs in five innings and James Vermilyea gave up two runs in an inning and a third as he took the loss.  Curtis Thigpen homered and he drove in two runs while Wayne Lydon went two for four with a double and two runs.

In the second game, the Chiefs managed just two runs in the 3-2 loss.  Russ Adams had two hits including a solo homerun and Erik Kratz went two for three with a run.  A pretty good start by Dustin McGowan went to waste and he gave up one run in six innings while Beau Kemp was credited with two runs without getting single batter out and he took the loss.

Chiefs Lose Fourth Straight In Blowout Loss to Buffalo

The Chiefs losing streak continued and this time it was a 10-5 loss to Buffalo that cost them in the standings.  Geremi Gonzalez took the loss but he only gave up three the runs.  The other seven were given up by James Vermilyea who appeared to be in there taking it for the team in a tough outing.

Curtis Thigpen had a nice game and he went two for four with a two run homer.  Sal Fasano finished with two hits and one of them was a solo homerun.

Chiefs Held to Two Runs in Third Straight Loss

The Chiefs lost to Rochester 6-2, and both runs came on one swing of the bat by John-Ford Griffin.  He went one for two with two walks a homerun and two RBIs.

Ryan Houston relieved Dustin McGowan after a rain delay and he had a tough time.  He gave up three runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings and the loss drops him to 0-1 on the season.

Chiefs Held to Four Hits in Loss to Rochester

The Chiefs’ hitters were held in check yesterday in a 4-1 loss to Rochester.  Sal Fasano drove in the only run with a solo shot and he was also the only Chief with two hits.

Jason Scobie had a nice start but he didn’t get a decision.  He gave up one run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in five innings of work.  Blaine Neal gave up three runs on two homers in the bottom of the eighth to lose it.

Chiefs Three Game Winning Streak Ends With Loss to Rochester

Ismael Ramirez had a tough start in the Chiefs’ 5-2 loss to Rochester.  He gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in just three innings.  The loss drops him to 0-3 on the season.

Both Chiefs runs came on one swing of the bat.  John Hattig homered and drove in both runs.  Chad Mottola went two for four with a double and a run.

Chiefs Take Two in Doubleheader Over Yankees

The Chiefs took it to the Yankees today and won both ends of a doubleheader. In they first game, Kevin Barker had three hits and four RBIs and Curtis Thigpen had two hits, three runs and three RBIs in the 8-2 win.  Josh Banks picked up the win with a seven inning complete game.  He gave up two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.

The second game was closer but the end result was the same.  Thigpen had the game winner with a walk off two run homer.  Matt Roney picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.  He struck out four.

Chiefs Win In Fourteen

Syracuse scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game and then they scored a single run in the bottom of the fourteenth to win it.  Kevin Barker doubled and drove in two runs and Russ Adams hit a oslo homerun in the 4-3 win.

Geremi Gonzalez threw five shutout innings and he gave up just one hit with five strikeouts in his start.  Jason Scobie picked up the win with an inning of shutout relief.

Chiefs Run Into Philip Hughes in Loss to Yankees

The Chiefs were held to six hits in a 4-0 shutout loss to the Yankees.  Mike Vento was the hitting star.  He went two for three with a walk and he was the only Chief to reach base three times.

Dustin McGowan took the loss and he dropped to 0-2 on the season.  He gave up three runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.

Syracuse Splits Doubleheader With Ottawa

Syracuse won one and lost one today in a doubleheader with Ottawa.  In the first game, the pitchers threw a shutout with Ty Taubenheim picking up the win.  He gave up just seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in six innings of work.  Mike Vento had a huge day at the plate.  He went three for three with two doubles, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs.  John-Ford Griffin drove in two with a homerun and he now has ten on the season.

In the second game, the Chiefs fell short of coming back in a 4-3 loss.  Ismael Ramirez lost his second game of the season and he gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.  Chad Mottola went two for three with two RBIs and John Ford Griffin had another nice game with two hits and two runs.

Chiefs Come From Behind With Back to Back to Back Homers But Lose in the Ninth

This was a tough loss.  The Chiefs were down 4-0 and then Kevin Barker, John Hattig and Sal Fasano hit back to back to back homeruns in the top of the seventh to tie it. Unfortunately, Blaine Neal gave up a ninth inning run as the Chiefs let this one slip.

Geremi Gonzalez was hit hard in his start.  He gave up four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in just 1 2/3 innings.

Chiefs Rack Up Ten Hits, Just One Run in Loss to Charlotte

Four different Chief hitters had at least two hits but the end result was just one run.  Sal Fasano accounted for the lone run in the 3-1 loss.  He went two for four with a solo homerun.

A really good start by Dustin McGowan went to waste.  He gave up a single run on six hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in five innings of work.

Syracuse Held to One Run in Loss to Charlotte

The Chiefs lost to Charlotte earlier today and while they got some decent pitching, the Chiefs never could get the bats going.  The lone run came in the eighth inning when Mike Vento singled home Jeff Duncan.

Ismael Ramirez gave up three runs in four innings in the 3-1 loss.  Give some props to the pen though.  They held Charlotte to just one hit in four shutout innings.

Mike Vento Homers in Chiefs Second Straight Loss

The Chiefs lost to the Bulls for the second straight game.  Mike Vento pretty much provided the Chiefs offense with a two run homerun in the 6-2 loss.

Ty Taubenheim had a rough start and he took the loss.  He gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

Josh Banks Hit Hard in First Chiefs Loss

Josh Banks was knocked around in the Chiefs 9-5 loss to the Durham Bulls.  He gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings with four strikeouts.  Each of the two Chiefs relievers also gave up at least two runs in the blowout loss.

John-Ford Griffin and Adam Lind both hit their second homeruns in the loss.  Lind’s was a two run shot while Griffin’s came with nobody on base.

Syracuse Scores Sixteen in Shutout Win Over Bulls

This was a beat down, plain and simple and a lot of Chiefs had boxscores that look like something out of a video game.  Six Chiefs had at least two hits and six scored at least two runs.  Adam Lind led the way though.  He went three for six with a homerun, five RBIs and two runs.

Geremi Gonzalez had an awesome start that was lost in the offensive onslaught.  He gave up four hits in five shutout innings and he struck out nine with no walks.

Chiefs Come From Behind to Beat Bulls

The Syracuse Chiefs didn’t get their first hit until the eighth inning but once they did, they made them count in a come from behind win over the Durham Bulls.  John-Ford Griffin led the way with two hits, a run and an RBI.  His double was also the only extra base hits of the game.

Dustin McGowan struck out eight and gave up just one unearned in five innings of work. He gave up just two hits and two walks.
