The Syracuse Chiefs split their Sunday double header making up for the game that was postponed on Saturday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. In game 1 the Chiefs fell to the Yanks 2-1 and in game 2 they were victorious getting a 2-0 win. Their record is now 15-10 placing them in 2nd place in the INT North.
Game 1 didn’t show much offense out of the Chiefs getting just 6 hits and only 1 run. The only RBI came from DH Curtis Thigpen who went 0-for-2 including his 4th RBI of the season. His batting average now stands at .186 this season. The run that was scored came from CF Buck Coats who went 2-for-3 with a run scored making his batting average .244.
David Romero took the mound for the Chiefs pitching just 3 innings but they were very impressive. He only allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and K’d 4. He did get the loss however bringing his record to 0-1 this season and his ERA is now 1.84. The undefeated righty got the start for the Yanks and pitched another impressive game going 6 innings deep allowing 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 6 K’s. He earned his 4th win of the season making his record 4-0 and his ERA now stands at 0.87. Jose Veras came to close the game out for the Yanks and did just that getting his 8th save of the season. The win is Scranton/WB 17th of the year giving them a record of 17-7 as they lead the INT North.
Game 2 was also very close but this time the Chiefs came out on top in a 2-0 win. The offense only collected 2 hits but they produced 2 RBI. RF Russ Adams got 1 of the RBI going 1-for-3 including his 8th RBI of the season. His batting average is now at .243 for the season. The other RBI came off from Curtis Thigpen who went 0-for-2 but got his 5 RBI of the season. The 2 runs scored came from Buck Coats who went 0-for-1 with the run scored and he was walked once. The other run scored came from 3rd basemen Sergio Santos going 1-for-2 including a double and a run scored.
John Parrish got the start for the Chiefs pitching a very strong game going 5 and 1/3rd inning allowing just 4 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 6 Ks. He earned the win for the club making his record 3-0 this season and his ERA is at 2.42. Mike Gosling came in to close it out and got his 2nd save of the season.
Eric Fowler improved to 1-0 on the season with six shutout innings in the Fisher Cats 2-0 win. He gave up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Sergio Santos went two for five with an RBI. Chip Cannon went three for four.
The Fisher Cats and New Britain each took a game in their doubleheader. New Britain took the first game 9-8 Russ Savickas was hit hard in his start. He gave up six runs on seven hits with a strikeout in just 1 2/3 innings. Sergio Santos hit a three run homer while Manuel Mayorson singled, drove in two and scored a run.
Game two was a pitcher’s duel with the Fisher Cats coming out on top 2-1. Jo Matamuto gave up one run on four hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in his start while Tracy Thorpe picked up the win with two shutout frames to close out the game. Chip Cannon doubled home the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Fisher Cats came from behind to beat New Britain 7-6. Chip Cannon was one of the top hitters and he went two for three with a homerun and three runs scored. Sergio Santos also had a nice game and he went two for five with a double, a homerun and two RBIs.
Kurt Isenberg improved to 2-3 with the win. He gave up four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in seven solid innings.
The Fisher Cats jumped out to an 8-2 led only to see New Britain score five unanswered runs in the final three innings. Fortunately, they only came as close as one run and a win is a win. Sergio Santos went three for five with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs while Robinzon Diaz went three for five with an RBI and three runs.
Jesse Litsch picked up the win and he improved to 7-2 on the season. He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
Dustin Majewski scampered home on a Reading error in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Sergio Santos was the hitting star in the 7-6 win. He went two for four with a homerun and three RBIs. The homerun was his eleventh of the season.
Jesse Carlson picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief. He gave up one run on two hits.
The Fisher Cats edged Reading 1-0 in a solid pitcher’s duel and Kyle Yates got it done on the mound. He gave up just three hits with six strikeouts in eight great innings.
Sergio Santos was the hitting star. He went two for four and he scored the only run of the game.
David Purcey had a decent start and he left with the lead, but three late runs given up by the pen cost the Fisher Cats a win. Jesse Carlson took the loss and he dropped to 2-1 on the season.
Sergio Santos had a nice day at the plate. He went two for four with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Ryan Patterson also had a nice game and he finished with two hits including a two run homer.
Sergio Santos had a huge game in the Fisher Cats 5-4 win over Binghamton. He hit a two run homer in the ninth inning to help tie the game and send it into extra frames and he finished the game three for five with two doubles, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Chip Cannon won it in the thirteenth with a solo homer and he both drove in two and scored twice in the game.
Lee Gronkiewicz picked up the win with an impressive relief outing. He struck out four in two shutout innings.
Jesse Litsch got it done on the mound for the Fisher Cats in their 3-1 win over Binghamton. He gave up just one hit and two walks with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 shutout innings.

The Fisher Cats beat up on Binghamton in a 6-2 win. Sergio Santos provided quite a bit of the offense with a big day at the plate. He went three for four with a double, a two homeruns and three RBIs.

Ricardo Romero had a solid start for the Fisher Cats in their come from behind win. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Tracy Thorpe picked up the win with a shutout ninth.
Sergio Santos was the hitting star in the 4-3 win. He went two for four with a double, three RBIs and a homerun.
Michael MacDonald improved his record to a perfect 3-0 with a top notch start in the Fisher Cats win over Portland. He gave up just a single run on four hits with two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work.
