The Syracuse Chiefs got back to their winning ways on Thursday as they took the 2nd game of 3 against the Pawtucket Red Sox. The 4-2 victory is their 8th in the last 10 games and puts them in 2nd place in the INT North.
1st basemen Chip Cannon went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. He recorded a solo-homer in the 5th off Sox starter Charlie Zink. The homer is his 2nd of the season and the 2 RBI give him 8. Center Fielder Wayne Lydon also had a good game going 3-for-5 including a double and a RBI. He has brought his batting average up to .259 and the RBI is his 9th of the year.
Chiefs lefty Bill Murphy took the mound for the ball club and had a solid game. He worked 5 and 2/3rds innings giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 2 K’s. He now has his ERA at 2.70 this season but he didn’t earn the win. Tracy Thorpe came in to pitch 2/3rds innings striking out 2 in the process. He earned the win for Syracuse bringing his record to 1-0. Mike Gosling came in to finish the game and earned his 1st save of the season and brought his ERA to 2.45.
The Chiefs will look to continue their winning streak on Friday finishing the series against Pawtucket. Righty Cane Davis will take the mound and will face up against Sox Chris Smith.
The Fisher Cats not only couldn’t hit the ball, but their pitchers were hit hard in a 9-1 loss to Portland. Chip Cannon drew two walks and he drove in the only run for the Fisher Cats.
Kurt Isenberg took the loss and he fell to 3-7 on the season. He gave up five runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
Kurt Isenberg had a tough time in the Fisher Cats 8-3 loss to Portland. He gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings and the loss drops him to 2-4 on the season.
Chip Cannon was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for three with a walk and an RBI.
The Fisher Cats and New Britain each took a game in their doubleheader. New Britain took the first game 9-8 Russ Savickas was hit hard in his start. He gave up six runs on seven hits with a strikeout in just 1 2/3 innings. Sergio Santos hit a three run homer while Manuel Mayorson singled, drove in two and scored a run.
Game two was a pitcher’s duel with the Fisher Cats coming out on top 2-1. Jo Matamuto gave up one run on four hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings in his start while Tracy Thorpe picked up the win with two shutout frames to close out the game. Chip Cannon doubled home the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Fisher Cats came from behind to beat New Britain 7-6. Chip Cannon was one of the top hitters and he went two for three with a homerun and three runs scored. Sergio Santos also had a nice game and he went two for five with a double, a homerun and two RBIs.
Kurt Isenberg improved to 2-3 with the win. He gave up four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in seven solid innings.
Chip Cannon had a big day at the plate in the Fisher Cats 8-5 win over New Britain. He went two for four with a double, a homerun, three RBIs and three runs. Dustin Majewski went two for three with a double, two RBIs and a run.
Russ Savickas picked up the win with a mediocre start. He gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings.
David Purcey dropped to 3-4 on the season after a tough start in the Fisher Cats’ 11-3 loss to the Thunder. He gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Chip Cannon was the hitting star in the loss. He went two for four with a double and a solo homerun.
Chip Cannon had a huge day at the plate in the Fisher Cats 9-6 win over Binghamton. He went three for six with two doubles, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Ryan Klosterman went two for four with two doubles, three runs and one RBI while Rob Cosby went three for five with a homerun and two RBIs.
Russ Savickas was mediocre in this start but he improved to 2-2 with all of the offense. He gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts in five innings.
The Fisher Cats matched Bowie’s nine hits, but they pushed only one runner across the plate in their 4-1 loss to Bowie. Aaron Mathews drove in the lone run while Chip Cannon went three for four with a double.
Kurt Isenberg threw a nice game but he took his first loss of the season. He gave up two run on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
Sergio Santos had a huge game in the Fisher Cats 5-4 win over Binghamton. He hit a two run homer in the ninth inning to help tie the game and send it into extra frames and he finished the game three for five with two doubles, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Chip Cannon won it in the thirteenth with a solo homer and he both drove in two and scored twice in the game.
Lee Gronkiewicz picked up the win with an impressive relief outing. He struck out four in two shutout innings.
The Fisher Cats lost to Portland 4-2 and Kyle Yates took the loss. He gave up three runs on six hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
David Smith singled, drew a walk and scored. Chip Cannon was the only Fisher Cat to reach base three times and he did it with a single and two walks.
Wayne Lydon got it done with the stick for the Fisher Cats this afternoon as they beat New Britain 6-4. Lydon went two for four with three RBIs and Manuel Mayorson went three for five with two runs. Chip Cannon had a tough time today and he struck out all five times he came to the plate.
Jesse Litsch had a decent start and he picked up the win. He gave up three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work.
After two postponed games, the Fisher Cats finally got in their home opener and they edged New Britain 7-6. Erik Kratz had a big game at the plate. He went two for three with a homerun, three RBIs and two runs. Wayne Lydon and Chip Cannon also went yard in the game.
Michael MacDonald picked up the win despite a so so start. He gave up three runs on five hits and a walk in five innings of work.
