The Jays Triple A affiliate, the Las Vegas 51s, are off to a rough start and they’re in last place. 9-14 isn’t horrible, and the good news is they’re only five games back. And three games separate second place from last place. Travis Snider was sent down to work on his swing and it looks like he doesn’t need much tuning at this level. He went four for four in his first game. David Cooper has been one of the better hitters with a 1.055 OPS and Brad Mills has been the best pitcher with 28 strikeouts and a 2.18 ERA in 33 innings.
Fortunately the Fisher Cats aren’t doing as bad. They’re 12-9 which is good for a tie for second place. Moises Sierra has been their best hitter with an .849 OPS, 12 RBIs and 12 runs. Joel Carreno has had a befuddling season. He’s 0-3 but he has 23 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings with a 6.56 ERA. The strikeout to walk ratio is nice, but he’s giving up hits by the bushel.
Dunedin is in dead last with an 8-14 record. Brad Glenn leads the team with four home runs and twelve RBIs while A.J. Jimenez has a .365 average with ten runs. Deck McGuire is 1-2 but he has a 3.65 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings.
And finally, the Lansing Lugnuts are off to a really nice start. They’re 15-7 already although they’ve missed their share of games like the rest of the division. Jake Marisnick leads the team in most offensive categories and Drew Hutchinson has 24 strikeouts and a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings.
